How to Use

- Add the customer: name, address, state and GSTIN if they are registered. The tool picks CGST + SGST or IGST from your state and the place of supply.
- Check the invoice number and date, then add each item with its HSN/SAC code, quantity, rate, any discount (₹ or %) and GST rate.
- Optionally open Bank and UPI details (with a UPI QR code for the total), Logo and signature, and Notes and terms.
- Look over the live preview and the Check before you send list, then tap Download PDF or Print. On a phone, switch to the Preview tab at the top.
What a valid GST tax invoice must contain
A registered business that sells taxable goods or services must issue a tax invoice (Section 31 of the CGST Act). Rule 46 of the CGST Rules, 2017 lists what it must show, and this GST invoice generator prints every item:
- Your name, address and GSTIN.
- A serial number of up to 16 characters (letters, digits, hyphen "-" or slash "/"), unique for the financial year, and the date.
- The customer's name, address and GSTIN/UIN if registered. For an unregistered customer, their name, address, delivery address and state are required when the taxable value is ₹50,000 or more (and on request below that).
- HSN code (goods) or SAC (services), description, quantity and unit.
- Total value, taxable value after discount, and the rate and amount of CGST, SGST/UTGST or IGST.
- Place of supply with the state name for inter-state supplies, and the delivery address if it differs.
- Whether tax is payable on reverse charge, and the signature of you or your authorised signatory.
HSN digits: under Notification 78/2020-Central Tax (from 1 April 2021), businesses with turnover up to ₹5 crore in the previous year must show at least a 4-digit HSN code on B2B invoices (optional on invoices to unregistered buyers); above ₹5 crore, 6 digits on every invoice.
CGST + SGST or IGST?
It depends on where you're registered and on the place of supply. For goods, that's usually where delivery ends. For most services, it's the customer's location.
Different state: IGST = taxable value × GST rate
Worked example. A Mumbai shop sells a laptop for ₹50,000 at 18% GST.
| Customer in | Tax type | Tax | Invoice total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pune (Maharashtra) | CGST 9% + SGST 9% | ₹4,500 + ₹4,500 | ₹59,000 |
| Bengaluru (Karnataka) | IGST 18% | ₹9,000 | ₹59,000 |
The total doesn't change, only the split. In Chandigarh, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, UTGST replaces SGST. The first two digits of a GSTIN are the state code (27 Maharashtra, 29 Karnataka, 07 Delhi), and the tool warns if a GSTIN doesn't match the state you chose or its check character is wrong.
Tax invoice, bill of supply or plain invoice
| You are | Document | GST charged? |
|---|---|---|
| Regular GST taxpayer, taxable items | Tax invoice | Yes |
| Regular taxpayer, only exempt or nil-rated items | Bill of supply | No |
| Composition dealer | Bill of supply, headed "composition taxable person, not eligible to collect tax on supplies" (Rule 5) | No |
| Not registered under GST | Invoice / bill | No, you can't collect GST |
If a registered business sells both taxable and exempt items to an unregistered customer, one invoice-cum-bill of supply can be issued (Rule 46A); the tool uses that title automatically.
Copies, rounding and amount in words
Rule 48 asks for goods invoices in triplicate (original for recipient, duplicate for transporter, triplicate for supplier) and services invoices in duplicate. Pick the copies you need; each gets its own pages in the PDF. Tax is worked out per line to the paisa and the total can be rounded to the nearest rupee, with the difference shown as "Round off". The amount in words uses lakh and crore, as Indian banks and auditors expect.
E-invoicing (IRN) is separate
If your aggregate turnover crossed ₹5 crore in any financial year since 2017-18, B2B invoices must be reported on the GST Invoice Registration Portal to get an IRN and a signed QR code (Notification 10/2023-Central Tax, from 1 August 2023; still the limit in October 2026). This tool makes the invoice document but doesn't generate an IRN, so if you're under e-invoicing, use your accounting software or the IRP. Check the current rules on gst.gov.in or with your CA.
The invoice is made in your browser. If you choose to remember your business details, they stay only in this browser and you can forget them with one tap.
