MET मूल्ये 2011 Compendium of Physical Activities मधून घेतली आहेत.

How exercise calories are worked out

This calories burned calculator uses MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) values. A MET is a standard measure of how hard an activity is compared with sitting still, where 1 MET is the energy you use at rest. The formula is:

Calories = MET × Weight (kg) × Duration (hours)

So if you weigh 70 kg and run for 60 minutes (MET 9.8), you burn 9.8 × 70 × 1 = 686 calories. That includes the roughly 70 calories you'd have burned sitting still for the hour, so the calculator also shows the extra over resting, worked out with MET − 1.

The MET values here and in the calculator come from the 2011 Compendium of Physical Activities, the standard reference researchers use.

What changes your actual burn

  • Fitness level: trained athletes burn fewer calories for the same activity, because their bodies are more efficient.
  • Heart rate: a heart rate monitor gives a more personal estimate than a MET formula.
  • Temperature: working out in the heat raises calorie burn by 5–10%.
  • Afterburn (EPOC): after high-intensity exercise your body keeps burning extra calories for hours. This calculator doesn't count that.

Within about 10–20% for most people. The error comes from individual differences: fitness level (trained athletes burn fewer calories for the same activity), body composition (more muscle burns more), the weather and how efficiently you move. A heart rate monitor or fitness tracker gives a closer estimate.

Yes. Calorie burn rises in direct proportion to body weight. A 90 kg person burns about 50% more than a 60 kg person doing the same activity for the same time. That's why the calculator asks for your weight.

High-intensity ones: skipping rope (800–1,000 kcal/hr), running at 12+ km/h (900–1,100 kcal/hr) and HIIT (600–900 kcal/hr). But a 45-minute moderate run you do every week beats 10 minutes of flat-out effort you never repeat. The activity you'll keep doing is the one that burns the most over time.

Yes. It's called EPOC (Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption), or the 'afterburn effect'. After high-intensity exercise your metabolism stays raised for 12–48 hours, and HIIT and strength training produce the most. This calculator only counts calories burned during the exercise. Afterburn adds roughly 6–15% more for high-intensity sessions.
