Why work out the gap between two dates?

You need the exact number of days between two dates more often than you'd expect: someone's exact age, the days left before a wedding or exam, how long a project has run, the length of a lease or subscription, or how many weeks pregnant you are. This date difference calculator gives you the answer in several forms at once.

How the calculation works

The calculator splits the gap into years, months and remaining days using calendar arithmetic, so it allows for months of different lengths and for leap years. It also gives the total in plain days and weeks. From 1 January 2026 to 15 October 2026, for example, is 9 months and 14 days, or 287 days.

Common uses

  • Age: enter your date of birth as the start date and today as the end date.
  • Countdown: start today and end on the event date to see exactly how many days are left.
  • Work experience: work out your exact tenure for a resume or job application.
  • Lease or contract length: check the exact number of days in a rental or service agreement.
  • Pregnancy: start on the first day of your last period (LMP) and end today to see the pregnancy in weeks and days.

Leap years

Leap years are counted automatically. A leap year comes every 4 years, except century years that don't divide by 400. 2024 was a leap year (366 days), but 2100 won't be.
