- Choose or drop a PDF. If it asks for a password, type it in the box that appears.
- Turn pages with the arrow buttons, or type a page number and press Enter. On a computer the left and right arrow keys work too.
- Use − and + to zoom, and Fit width to make the page fill the screen again.
Read a PDF without installing anything
This PDF viewer opens a PDF right here in the web page. It's useful on an office or college computer where you can't install a PDF reader, or when you want to look through a file before you upload or forward it. The file is read on your device and isn't uploaded.
What you can do
- Read one page at a time, with buttons for the first, previous, next and last page, and a box to jump straight to any page number.
- Turn pages with the left and right arrow keys, or Page Up and Page Down, on a computer.
- Zoom from 50% to 300% with the − and + buttons. Fit width makes the page fill the screen again, and it refits by itself when you turn your phone or resize the window.
- Open password-protected PDFs. Type the password in the box that appears; it's used only on your device.
Pages are drawn at your screen's full sharpness, so small print stays readable on a phone too.
Opening locked PDFs from banks and UIDAI
Many documents arrive with a password: bank and credit card statements, e-Aadhaar, Form 16 and mutual fund statements. The password is usually explained in the email or on the page you downloaded the file from. For e-Aadhaar it's the first four letters of your name in capital letters followed by your year of birth, so Ramesh born in 1990 would type RAME1990. Bank statement passwords vary from bank to bank and often combine part of your name with your date of birth or customer ID, so check the email the statement came with.
What it doesn't do
This is a plain reader. Each page is shown as a picture, so you can't select or copy text, search the document, click links or fill in form fields. There's no print or download button either, since the file is already on your device. For those jobs, use the matching tool:
- Copy the text out of a PDF: PDF to Word.
- Fill in or sign a form: Edit PDF.
- Save a page as a picture: PDF to Image.
- Fix a sideways page for good: Rotate PDF Pages.
