કેવી રીતે વાપરવું
- Paste your messy text (copied from a PDF, Word, an email or a web page) into the Messy text box.
- The clean text appears on the right as you paste. By default, double spaces and tabs become one space, lines are trimmed, and invisible or non-breaking spaces are fixed.
- Turn on Join broken lines for text copied from a PDF, where every line stops early. Under Empty lines, choose to keep one, remove all or keep them as they are.
- Click Copy result or save it as a .txt file. The counter shows how many characters were removed.
When do you need this?
Text copied from PDFs, scanned documents, web pages or Word files often comes with extra spaces, double line breaks, uneven indentation and stray spaces at the ends of lines. Cleaning that up by hand is slow, and it's easy to miss a few. This tool lets you remove extra spaces and blank lines in a click or two.
Common clean-up jobs
- Copying from a PDF: PDFs often break lines in the middle of a sentence and put extra spaces between words.
- Data entry: CSV and database fields with spaces at the start or end don't match when they should.
- Legal or contract text: documents with uneven spacing need tidying before they go into a CMS or legal software.
- Code documentation: paste Javadoc or Doxygen comments and even out the whitespace before reformatting.
- WhatsApp and chat exports: chat logs are full of odd line breaks and repeated blank lines.
A note for developers
Remove Extra Spaces does roughly what str.replace(/[ \t]+/g, ' ').replace(/ *\n */g, '\n').replace(/\n{3,}/g, '\n\n').trim() does in JavaScript: it squeezes runs of spaces and tabs to one space, strips spaces around line breaks and leaves at most one blank line in a row. Unlike /\s+/g, it keeps your line breaks. You also get the line-by-line options that a one-line script doesn't give you.
